Symptom

• The LCD panel is open.

c Close the LCD panel.

• The contrast between the subject and background is too

high. This is not a malfunction.

• This is not a malfunction.

• SLOW SHTR, Super NightShot* or Colour Slow Shutter* is

activated. This is not a malfunction.

• If 10 minutes elapse after you set the POWER switch to

CAMERA or DEMO MODE is set to ON in the menu
settings without a cassette and the “Memory Stick”*
inserted, your camcorder automatically starts the
demonstration.

c Insert a cassette/a “Memory Stick”* or press the LCD

screen. The demonstration stops. You can also set
DEMO MODE to OFF in the menu settings (p. 249).

• NIGHTSHOT is slid to ON.

c Slide it to OFF (p. 47).

• NIGHTSHOT is slid to ON in a bright place.

c Slide it to OFF (p. 47).

• The back light function is active.

c Deactivate it (p. 46).

• BEEP is set to OFF in the menu settings.

c Set it to MELODY or NORMAL (p. 250).

c Set STEADYSHOT to OFF in the menu settings (p. 243).

• The power of the external flash (optional) is off or the

power source is not installed.

c Turn on the external flash (optional) or install the power

source.

• 2 or more external flashes (optional) are attached.

c Only 1 external flash (optional) can be attached.

• PORTRAIT or SPORTS of PROGRAM AE is on when

recording in light from a discharge tube such as a
fluorescent lamp, sodium lamp or mercury lamp.
c Set PROGRAM AE to AUTO in the menu settings.

The picture does not appear in the
viewfinder.
A vertical band appears when you
shoot a subject such as lights or a
candle flame against a dark
background.
A vertical band appears when you
shoot a very bright subject.
