Troubleshooting Guide

The following checks will assist in the correction of most problems which you may encounter with your system. Before going through the
check list beiow, first check the foliowing points.

• The power cord must be connected firmly.
• The speaker connection must aiso be firm.
Should any problem persist after you have made these checks, consuit your nearest Sony dealer.

Radio Reception

' Symptom

Cause (and Remedy)

The TUNED indicator flashes.

• Adjust the antenna.

The STEREO indicator flashes.

• Adjust the antenna.

Severe hum or noise.

• Adjust the antenna.
• The signal strength is too weak. Connect the external antenna.

• Connect the ground wire.

Cassette Deck Operation

^ Symptom

Cause (and Remedy)

Recording cannot be made.

• No cassette in the cassette holder.
• The tab is removed from the cassette. (See page 29.)
• The tape is wound completely.

Tape does not move even when the l>or <] button is pressed.

• The cassette deck is in the pause mode.
• The desired deck is not selected. Select it with the DECK A/B

selection button. (See page 27.)

• Deck B is not selected. Select deck B with DECK A/B selection

button. (See page 27.)

Recording or playback cannot be made or there is a decrease in

sound level.

• Dirty head. (See page 59.)
• Magnetic build-up on the record/playback head. (See page 59.)

Excessive wow or flutter, or sound drop-out.

• Contamination of the capstans of pinch rollers. (See page 59.)

Insufficient erasure.

• Magnetic build-up on the erase head. (See page 59.)

Increase of noise or erase of high frequencies.

• Magnetic build-up on the erase head. (See page 59.)
