Cause

What to do

The print heads are
misaligned.

Align the print heads with the Print
Head Alignment utility as described in
“Aligning the Print Heads” on page
8-41.

The printing position is
misaligned.

Make sure the High Speed option in
your printer driver is not selected.

For DOS users:
The print direction setting is
set to bidirectional (Bi-D) in
the default-setting mode.

Set the print direction to unidirectional
(Uni-D) in the default-setting mode as
described in “Changing the default
settings” on page 6-10.

Printing quality is not what you expect.

Cause

What to do

The paper loaded is not the
paper selected in your
application or the printer
driver.

Make sure you loaded the correct
paper in the printer and that you
selected the same media type in your
application and/or the printer driver
software.

Make sure you are using paper that
meets the paper requirements for this
printer. See “Paper” on page D-4.

You are not printing on the
correct side of the paper.

Check the paper packaging for the
correct side for printing; then load the
printable side of the paper face down
in the sheet feeder. When using the
manual feed slot or tractor feeder, load
paper printable side up.
