Choosing your surround
sound settings

The Room Setup procedure (

page 22–23)

provides you with a simple means of getting
good surround sound. The settings here are
more detailed, allowing you to specify the
distance from your listening position to each
speaker, for example. This should result in
better surround sound.

• Settings you make here will override

settings you made in the Room Setup.

• Settings are in feet (US model) or

meters (European model).

• The channel level and speaker distance

settings can also be made from the
Initial Settings menu (

page 68–70)

using the on-screen displays.

• Speaker distance settings have no effect

on SACD playback

• The setting display is automatically

exited after 20 seconds of inactivity.

Setting the front speaker
distance

• Default setting:

10 ft. / 3.0 m

This setting lets you specify how far the front
left/right speakers are from your regular
listening position.

Press SYSTEM SETUP

Use the

(cursor left/right)

buttons to choose ‘Speaker L/R’.

Use the

(cursor up/down) to set

the distance.
The distance can be set from

1 ft. / 0.3 m to

30 ft. / 9 m in 1 ft. / 0.3 m increments.

Press ENTER.

center speaker is from your regular listening
position.
