Changing the Time Display

The disc time indicators on the front-panel dis-
play and the On-Screen Displays can show
several different types of information for DVD
Audio, Audio CD, and Video CD/SVCD discs.
Options include elapsed time or remaining time
for a single selection or entire disc.

To change the time display:

• While playback is stopped, press the ON-

SCREEN button to show the CONTROL
screen. The screen may appear slightly
different for different types of discs.

• Use the CURSOR

buttons to move the

over the TIME SELECT field. The current

time display and mode are shown.

• Press ENTER to change the time display

mode. Each press steps to the next of four
options:

Each: The elapsed time for a single

Track;

shows 00:00 when stopped.

Each Remain: The remaining time for a
single

Track; shows the full length of a Track

when stopped.

Total: The elapsed time for the entire disc;
shows 00:00 when stopped.

Total Remain: The remaining time for
a an entire disc; shows the full length of
the disc

when stopped.

• Press the ON-SCREEN button to close the

display window.

NOTE

: You can change the time display for

an Audio CD or a DVD Audio disc with au-
dio only during playback. All other disc types
must be stopped first.

Setting Preferences

The RDV-1080 provides a number of default
operating preferences that can be set by the
user. These include language preferences,
display options, hardware configuration set-

tings, and speaker settings to match the unit
to your system. These preferences are set from
a PREFERENCE screen that appears on TV.

How to Set Preferences

This section explains the general procedure
for changing preference settings. See the in-
dividual topics that follow for instructions on
changing specific settings.

With no disc inserted in the unit, press

the ON-SCREEN button to show the PREF-
ERENCE screen.

• The screen gives access to three pages of

settings (PREFERENCE 1, PREFERENCE 2,
and SPK. SETTING) shown as tabs at the
top of the screen. Use the CURSOR
buttons to move the over the desired tab
to display one of the following three pages:

Preference 2:

Speaker Setting:

• Use the CURSOR

buttons to move the

up or down over the setting you wish to

adjust.

• Press the CURSOR

buttons to choose

the desired setting for the selected item.
Each button press cycles to the next avail-
able setting.

• Press the ON-SCREEN button to close the

display window.

Preferred Language
for Menus, Audio, and Subtitles

Some discs contain multiple languages for their
menu displays, audio content, and/or subtitles.
These preference settings specify the preferred
language if it is available on the disc. If the
preferred language is not available on a disc,
the disc’s own default language will be used.

Options for preferred languages are: EN-
GLISH

SPANISH

FRENCH

CHI-

NESE

GERMAN

ITALIAN

JAPA-

NESE

OTHER LANGUAGE CODE. The

“other language codes” are 2-letter abbrevia-
tions for additional languages listed in Figure
6.

On the PREFERENCE 1 screen, use the

CURSOR

buttons to move the over

the MENU, AUDIO, or SUBTITLE item.

• Press the CURSOR

buttons to choose

the preferred language.

On-Screen Display Language

The RDV-1080 can use several different lan-
guages for its On-Screen Displays. To change
the language used in the On-Screen Displays:

On the PREFERENCE 1 screen, use the

CURSOR

buttons to move the over

the ON-SCREEN LANGUAGE item.

• Press the CURSOR

buttons to choose

the default language.

ON SCREEN GUIDE Setting

You can choose whether or not to have the
unit display icons characters in the corner of
the screen to alert you to program content or
operating status. To change the setting:

On the PREFERENCE 1 screen, use the

CURSOR

buttons to move the over

the ON SCREEN GUIDE item.

• Press the CURSOR

buttons to choose

the desired setting.
