PROBLEM

6. Engine knocking.

Improper fuel.

Use fresh, unleaded gasoline (or
leaded if unleaded is not available).

Crankcase oil level low.

Fill to proper level, if knock has

developed due to running engine
out of oil, have your dealer check

the connecting rod bearing. See

"LUBRICATION” section of this
manual.

Engine overloaded.

Reduce load — use slower
ground speed. Avoid overloading
engine.

7. Engine ioses power.

Restricted air filter.

Clean air filter and precleaner.

Replace if excessively dirty or

damaged. See "ADJUSTMENTS-

MAINTENANCE” section of this
manual.

Too much oil in crankcase.

Check oil level — drain excess
if over full. See "LUBRICATION”
section of this manual.

Overheating.

Remove shrouds — clean dirt

and grease from engine fins and
shrouds. See "ADJUSTMENTS-

MAINTENANCE” section of this
manual.

Choke partly closed.

Adjust choke control wire. See
your Ariens Dealer.

Carburetor out of adjustment.

Adjust carburetor according to

Engine Instructions.

Dirt or water in fuel system.

Clean and flush entire fuel
system.

Faulty spark plug.

Re-gap or replace spark plug

according to Engine Instructions.

Worn, pitted ignition breaker points.

See your Ariens Dealer.

Maladjusted breaker points.

Adjust breaker points according
to Engine Instructions.

Faulty condensor.

See your Ariens Dealer.

Engine overloaded.

Reduce load — use slow ground
speed — avoid overloading engine.

Faulty engine valves or piston rings.

See your Ariens Dealer.

Breather assembly plugged.

See your Ariens Dealer.

8. Engine backfires after shut-down.

Gas fumes igniting in muffler.

Reduce throttle to low speed and
let idle for several minutes, pull
out the choke and turn off key.

9. Improper steering.

Tires improperly inflated.

Inflate tires as recommended in

"ADJUSTMENTS-MAINTENANCE”

section of this manual.

Hard Steering.

Lubricate properly — see

"LUBRICATION” section of this

manual. Check and adjust toe-in.

Excessive steering wheel play.

Replace worn ball joint

assemblies. See your Ariens

Dealer.
