MAINTENANCE

WARNING:

Failure to adjust the brakes so they lock the wheels se-

curely could result in serious personal injury.

ADJUSTING FRONT DRUM BRAKES

Try to move the vehicle backward and forward when the

front brake is applied. If the front wheels can turn, adjust

the front brake to lock the wheels securely.

Measure the amount of free play in the front brake lever.

The free play should be about 0.16-0.24 in. (4-6 mm).

Adjust the brakes by turning the adjustment nut located

on the cable approximately 6 in. (152 mm) from the front

brake drum assemblies.

After any adjustment of the brake adjustment screw, check

again to make sure the front wheels cannot turn when the

brake is applied.

REAR HYDRAULIC DISK BRAKE AND

PARKING BREAK INSPECTION

Inspect the rear disk brake caliper and brake fluid reservoir

for leakage. If brake fluid leaks, the safety of riding could

be affected.

Inspect the brake hose for cracks and the joint for leak-

age.

Check the brake fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. If

level is at or below the LOWER mark, inspect brake pads

for wear and hydraulic system for leaks.

Unscrew the 4 screws on top of the brake fluid container

and add fluid as needed.

WARNING:

Add DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid only from a sealed con-

tainer. Do not mix brake fluid types. Failure to follow this

warning could cause the brakes to fail, resulting in serious

personal injury.

Adjust the parking brake as needed by rotating the parking

brake adjustment nut.
