Self-diagnosis
Display

This system has the Self-diagnosis display
function to let you know if there is a system
malfunction. The display shows a code made
up of three letters and a message alternately
to show you the problem. To solve the
problem refer to the following list. If any
problem persists, consult your nearest Sony
dealer.

Troubleshooting

If you have any problem using this system,
use the following checklist.

First, check that the power cord is connected
firmly and that the speakers are connected
correctly and firmly.

Should any problem persist, consult your
nearest Sony dealer.

General

There is no sound.

•Press VOLUME +.
•Make sure the headphones are not

connected.

•Check the speaker connections.

There is severe hum or noise.

•A TV or VCR is placed too close to the

system. Move the system away from the
TV or VCR.

“0:00” flashes in the display.

•A power interruption occurred. Set the

clock and timer settings again.

The timer does not function.

•Set the clock correctly.

The remote does not function.

•Make sure to pull out the insulating sheet

from the remote.

•Make sure that the battery is inserted

correctly (with the + side facing up).

•There is an obstacle between the remote

and the system.

•The remote is not pointing in the

direction of the system’s sensor.

•The battery has run down. Replace the

battery.

•Do not place the system in locations

where it is near an electric inverter
system.

C11/MD Protected

The MD is protected against erasure.
mRemove the MD and slide the tab to close

the slot (page 30).

C13/REC Error

Recording is not possible.
mMove the system to a stable place and

start recording over from the beginning.

The MD is dirty or is scratched or the MD
does not meet the standards.
mChange the MD with another one and

start recording over from the beginning.

C13/Disc Error

The system cannot read the disc
information correctly.
mEject the MD once, then insert it again.

C14/Disc Error

The system cannot read the disc
information correctly.
mChange the MD with another one.
mErase all the recorded contents of the MD

using the Erase function on page 41.
