About the external synchronizing function

With this unit, the video output signal can be synchronized with NTSC/PAL signals or HD tri-level synchronizing signals
(external synchronizing signals) (External Sync function). This makes it possible to set the timing without connecting
a TBC (time base corrector) or other such device, so the picture can be switched without being disturbed.

• To use the external synchronizing function, set

External Sync to On and set the input signal format, Scaler Setting

(output resolution) and the synchronizing input signal format to the same setting (page 46).

• When using the external sync function, use one of the following formats:

720 x 480/59.94i, 720 x 576/50i, 1280 x 720/50p, 1280 x 720/59.94p, 1920 x 1080/50i, 1920 x 1080/59.94i

• The refresh rate output when this unit is started up is set by the

TV SYSTEM switch (page 26). To use the external

synchronizing function, be sure the external synchronizing signal’s refresh rate and this setting are the same.

• The external sync function does not work if

Memory 1, Memory 2 or Memory 3 is selected at Video Settings.

Select

Default when using the picture quality adjustment function (page 45).

• The

VIDEO OUT terminal has a fixed NTSC or PAL output. The external sync function cannot be used with this

terminal.

• When the external synchronizing function is activated,

S.LOCK is displayed at the upper right of the main unit

display.

To synchronize one player
Set the

75

Ω (terminating switch) on this unit’s rear panel to ON.

To synchronize two or more players with a sync generator
Set the terminal player’s

75

Ω (terminating switch) to ON, the 75 Ω (terminating switches) of the other players to OFF.

• When two or more players are synchronized and the power of one or more of the players is turned from off to on,

the output picture of the other players will be disturbed.

Caution

• Does not lock to the external synchronizing signal’s subcarrier component.

• The picture output from the

VIDEO OUT, COMPONENT VIDEO OUT and HDMI OUT terminals will be disturbed

for about 30 seconds until locking to the external synchronizing signal.

• Input the external synchronizing signal before playing. Synchronizing is not possible if the signal is input after

playback starts. Also, the picture may be disturbed if the external synchronizing signal is interrupted during
playback.

• Be sure to set

75

Ω (the terminating switch) to ON before inputting the external synchronizing signal. If an

excessive external synchronizing signal is input, the external synchronizing function may become unstable.

• For stable operation of the external synchronizing function, turn the power of peripheral devices on before turning

on this unit’s power.

• Depending on the sync generator and cables, the external synchronizing signal may be attenuated when multiple

players are connected, and this may keep the external sync function from operating.

• The external sync function synchronizes with the video signal’s waveform, not with the timing of the picture. To

synchronize with the picture, use a separate controller.
