TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE – ELECTRONIC IGNITION SYSTEM

SYMPTOM

POSSIBLE CAUSES

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Check voltage on AC terminals of module an/or batteries. Voltage should be

between 2.7 and 3.2 VAC. Make sure wire connections are secure.

Check for visible cracked casing, cuts, etc.

Check pilot assembly for visibly broken spark electrode, etc.

Check voltage on DC terminal of batteries. The value should be around 3.0V.

Make sure gas supply is turned on.

Make sure sensor wire connection is securely connected.

Make sure black, green, and orange wires are securely connected to the valve.

Make sure black sensor wire and black igniter wire are securely connected to

ignition module.

Purge gas line of air.

Test voltage at AC terminals of module and/or batteries.

Voltage should be between 2.7 and 3.2 VAC.

Set gas supply to “ON.”

Make sure black, green, and orange wires are securely connected to the valve.

Make sure black sensor wire (“S”) and black igniter wire (“I”) are securely

connected to ignition module.

Check location of sensor.

Check vent system for obstructions. Reset safety limit switch (see Page 17).

Check for proper log placement.

Check for proper air shutter openings.

1. Nothing happens when

ON/OFF switch is turned

on (pilot does not spark).

2. Main burner does not

light and igniter is

sparking.

3. Main burner lights;

then shuts off

unexpectedly.

4. Soot on logs and/or

glass.

Note: Before troubleshooting, make sure the appliance main line gas shut-off valve, gas control valve, and wall switch (if applicable) are in the

“ON” position.

Important: Valve system troubleshooting should only be performed by a qualified service technician.

A. Low voltage/or bad lead

wires.

C. Damaged pilot assembly.

D. Batteries Low

A. No fuel supply.

B. Loose sensor wire.

C. Loose wires to valve.

D. Loose wires to ignition

module.

E. Air in gas line.

F. Low voltage.

A. Gas supply is set to

“OFF.”

B. Loose wires to valve.

C. Loose wires to ignition

module.

D. Flame does not engulf

flame sensor.
