Troubleshooting Guide

The following checks will assist in the correction of most problems which you may encounter with your system. Before going through the
check list below, first check the following points.
eThe power cord must be connected firmly.
eThe speaker connection must also be firm.
Should any problem persist after you have made these checks, consult your nearest Sony dealer.

Radio Reception

Symptom

Cause (and Remedy)

The TUNED indicator flashes.

e Adjust the antenna.

The STEREO indicator flashes.

e Adjust the antenna.

Severe hum or noise.

e Adjust the antenna.
e The signal strength is too weak. Connect the external antenna.

e Connect the ground wire.
e You may hear some noise when you press OPEN/CLOSE 6 of the

CD player.

The stereo FM program cannot be received in stereo.

e Connect the external antenna. (See page 8.)

Cassette Deck Operation

Symptom

Cause (and Remedy)

Recording cannot be made.

e No cassette in the cassette holder,
a The tab is removed from the cassette. (See page 29.)
e The tape is wound completely.

Recording or playback cannot be made or there is a decrease in

sound level.

e Dirty head. (See page 37.)
e Magnetic build-up on the record/playback head. (See page 37.)

Excessive wow or flutter, or sound dropout.

e Contamination of the capstans or pinch rollers. (See page 37.)

Insufficient erasure.

e Magnetic build-up on the erase head. (See page 37.)

Increase of noise or erase of high frequencies.

e Magnetic build-up on the erase head. (See page 37.)
