5.1 MINIMUM CLEARANCE TO COMBUSTIBLES

MINIMUM CLEARANCE TO COMBUSTIBLES MUST BE MAINTAINED OR A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD

COULD RESULT.

WHEN CONSTRUCTING THE ENCLOSURE ALLOW FOR FINISHING MATERIAL THICKNESS TO
MAINTAIN CLEARANCES. FRAMING OR FINISHING MATERIAL CLOSER THAN THE MINIMUMS

LISTED MUST BE CONSTRUCTED ENTIRELY OF NON-COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS. MATERIALS

CONSISTING ENTIRELY OF STEEL, IRON, BRICK, TILE, CONCRETE, SLATE, GLASS OR PLASTERS,

OR ANY COMBINATION THEREOF ARE SUITABLE. MATERIALS THAT ARE REPORTED AS PASSING

ASTM E 136, STANDARD TEST METHOD FOR BEHAVIOUR OF MATERIALS IN A VERTICAL TUBE

FURNACE AT 750°C AND UL763 SHALL BE CONSIDERED NON-COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS.

NEVER OBSTRUCT THE FRONT OPENING OF THE APPLIANCE.

Maintain these minimum clearances to combustibles from appliance and vent surfaces
Non-combustible appliance fi nishing:

- 4” from the sides of the appliance opening

- 22 3/8” to the top of the appliance opening

Combustible appliance fi nishing:

- 0” to rear

- 2” all around the vent pipe*

- 22 1/2” recessed depth

- 64” from the bottom of the appliance to the ceiling

- 72” from bottom of appliance to the enclosure top

*HORIZONTAL VENT SECTIONS:

A minimum clearance of 2” all around the vent pipe on all horizontal runs to

combustibles is required. Use fi restop spacer W010-1799 (supplied).

*VERTICAL VENT SECTIONS:

A minimum of 1” all around the vent pipe on all vertical runs to combustibles is

required except for clearances in appliance enclosures. Use fi restop spacer W500-0096 (not supplied).
