Winter Return

De-Icer

For use in the Signature or Classic

Series Skimmers

The winter return de-icer is designed to keep a hole in the ice to allow for the exchange of

these toxic gases to take place, as well as providing aeration for your hibernating fish. The

de-icer simply threads onto your existing Aquascape check valve for use with an Aquascape

Designs 1500 or 3000 pump.

) Assembling Your Winter Return De-Icer

Set-up
Disconnect the check valve and remove the pump, filter mat and debris basket (Signature

Series™ Skimmer only) from the skimmer box. Thread the winter return onto the check

valve and place the pump back into the skimmer box. The pump will now sit in the skimmer

opposite of the way it was hooked up to the Biofalls® Filter, the winter return will extend

out over the front of the skimmer so the discharge is pointing down into the pond. Put the

skimmer stone back on, this will not sit flush due to the pipe sitting out the front, and plug

in the pump.
Recommendation: This product should be used in conjunction with a floating heater in

climates that get very cold winters. When the air temperature drops below 20 degrees the

water will start to dome up with ice at the point where water enters the pond. At this time

you can turn on your floating heater to help keep a hole open.
Note: Be sure to use cement and primer rated for flexible pvc during assembly.

Note: If using the

Winter Return De-Icer

in the Classic Skimmer,

you will have to trim

the middle pipe down

to 3” for proper fit.
