TROUBLESHOOTING USING THE L.E.D.

TROUBLESHOOTING

SYMPTOM

DIAGNOSTIC STEPS

1 When the humidity in the home is less than the knob setting or humidity curve, the control will operate humidifier
until the humidity is higher. Reduce knob setting.

2 Use "TEST" mode. Verify that the humidifier operates for 1 minute and shuts off.

1 Check voltage at humidifier control 24 V terminals. Voltage should be steady at 20-30 VAC.

2 Make sure wiring for outdoor temperature sensor is not close to other wires particularly high voltage.

Humidifier
turns on and
off repeatedly

COLOR

FUNCTION

Input power and sensor connections are properly made.

Green

Connections are properly made, humidistat is in Test Mode.

Green, blinking.

Red

Electrical connections are not properly made.

No power or insufficient power to the control.

Off

5 Outdoor temperature sensor may not be located closer than 4 feet to exhaust vents, dryer vents, etc.

6 If outdoor temperature sensor is mounted in fresh air intake duct, make sure the probe is no further than 1 foot from outside wall.

7 Remove wires from control "OUT" terminals, If humidifier continues to operate, check solenoid valve.

4 Outdoor temperature sensor may not be mounted on the South side of the house or in direct sunlight.

3 Measure resistance of the outdoor temperature sensor if installed by removing the leads of the sensor from the terminals. Measure the resistance
across the wires with an ohmmeter. Confirm reading with TABLE 1.

Humidifier
operation
continuous

3 If mounted on return air duct, make sure humidifier control is at least 24" upstream of humidifier's air discharge.

3 For standard operation, check that jumper is in "AUTO" position. For manual operation, check that jumper is in "MAN" position.

4 Inspect humidifier wiring. Refer to wiring diagrams, note whether jumper is installed in terminal block.

6 Check for humidifier operation by bypassing humidistat.

5 Check voltage at OUT terminals. There should be no voltage for an Elite Room Steam or a 1137 Power Humidifier.
Voltage should be 20-30 VAC for most others.

"TEST" mode operates humidifier for 1 minute only. DO NOT LEAVE IN "TEST" MODE, HUMIDIFIER WILL NOT OPERATE AFTER 1 MINUTE.

2 Check outdoor temperature sensor connections. Check connection to "SENSOR" terminals of control.

1 Set thermostat to operate both furnace burner and blower. Operation may be necessary for system power.

No Humidifier
Operation in
"TEST" mode

1 Outdoor temperature is greater than 50

°

F or less than -20

°

F. The humidifier control will only operate in "TEST", this is normal operation.

6 Outdoor temperature sensor may not be located closer than 4 feet to exhaust vents, dryer vents, etc.

7 If outdoor temperature sensor is mounted in fresh air intake duct, make sure the probe is no further than 1 foot from outside wall.

5 Outdoor temperature sensor may not be mounted on the South side of the house or in direct sunlight.

4 Measure resistance of the outdoor temperature sensor if installed by removing the leads of the sensor from the terminals. Measure the resistance
across the wires with an ohmmeter. Confirm reading with TABLE 1.

3 Humidity level in the home is higher than knob setting. Humidifier control will not operate the humidifier.

2 Humidity level in the home is higher than 45% RH. The humidifier control will only operate in "TEST", this is normal operation.

Humidifier
operation in
"TEST" mode
only

1 Technical fault with humidifier. Check water supply, electrical connections and condition of evaporator pad.

2 Humidifier run time is too short. Switch water supply to hot water if appropriate (use copper tubing).

Ideal Humidity
is not Achieved

3 Excess air infiltration. Seal sources of air loss.

4 Humidifier is undersized. Switch water supply to hot water if appropriate (use copper tubing). Add additional
unit(s) or replace existing unit with larger unit.
