MANUAL MODE

Set the control knob to the relative humidity recommended in the chart
below for corresponding average outdoor temperature. This setting is
suitable for most homes built after 1965. For older homes reduce the
control knob setting 5% relative humidity. For newer quality built homes
advance the control knob setting 5% relative humidity for better comfort.

II. APPLICATION
The E1 Electronic Humidistat provides automatic low voltage control of most
humidifiers. The humidistat uses microchip electronics for precise control
and is designed for wall mounting in the living area or mounting on the return
air duct.
RANGE: 10% to 45% RH ELECTRICAL RATING: 30 VAC / 60 VA

OPERATING MODES
The E1 has two operating modes. The standard "AUTO" operating mode
compensates for outdoor temperature. By automatically raising the humidity
as outdoor temperatures rise, the E1 allows the highest possible humidity.
By automatically lowering the humidity as temperatures drop, the E1
minimizes the risk of condensation on cold surfaces. Your E1 Electronic
Humidistat, when operating in its "AUTO" outdoor temperature compensating
mode, will provide you and your family with optimum comfort and is an
investment in the integrity of your home's structure.
The MANUAL mode is used when conditions require constant humidity levels
or when technical issues make use of the AUTO mode impractical. Desired
humidity levels are selected manually and any adjustments for outdoor
temperature must also be made manually.

I. SAFETY

WARNING! Improper electrical wiring can result in fire, failure or loss of
humidity control. Disconnect electrical power before installing and servicing.
Failure to disconnect electrical power may result in injury or death. All local
building and electrical codes must be followed.

The E1 must be installed by a qualified Technician. Failure to properly install
the E1 may result in property damage or personal injury.

Homeowners must read instructions and understand the operation of the E1
and the humidifier(s) it controls.

Improper operation can result in over or under humidification. Over
humidification can result in condensation, structural damage and mold.
Condensation within a building's structure can cause loss of structural
strength. Condensation can also enable mold and mildew growth resulting in
personal injury and damage to building structure and contents.

AUTO MODE - BASIC OPERATION

Set the control knob at 5. This setting is suitable for most homes built after
1965. If your home was built before 1965, you see condensation or suspect
condensation may occur, see Advanced Operation. For higher humidity
requirements, see Advanced Operation.

AUTO MODE - ADVANCED OPERATION

Moist air condenses on cold surfaces. You may experience this on a
bathroom mirror after a hot shower or in the kitchen when boiling water.
Condensation is caused by the combination of low temperature and high
humidity. A home's ability to resist condensation depends on the control of
air and vapor infiltration. The higher the quality of insulation, infiltration
barriers and vapor barriers, the higher the humidity may be without
condensation.

Your E1 humidistat is designed to prevent condensation on exterior windows
and within exterior walls by lowering indoor humidity to compensate for lower
outside temperatures. The E1 uses a Humidity Curve you select to adjust
the indoor humidity levels to your home's construction. The Humidity Curve
contains the proper humidity for every outdoor temperature. Use the
following Construction Qualifications to select the correct Humidity Curve.

Average home built after 1965, use of R11(3 1/2") insulation in
walls and ceiling with kraft vapor barrier.

Average home built after 1980, use of R11(3 1/2") insulation in
walls and R19(6") in ceiling with kraft vapor barrier. Styrofoam
insulation on exterior 1" min. Double pane windows.

Top quality home built after 1990, use of R19(6") insulation in
walls and R38(12") in ceiling with interior poly vapor barrier.
Styrofoam insulation on exterior 2" min. Triple pane windows.

Average home built between 1950 and 1965, use of R6(2")
insulation in walls and ceiling, no vapor barrier.

IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF YOUR HOME'S CONSTRUCTION

Set the control knob at 5. If condensation occurs, turn the control knob
lower 1/2 graduation until condensation stops.
