8.2.5 EMHR and %EMHR
Estimated Maximum Heart Rate (EMHR)

EMHR = 220 - age of the user

Percentage of Estimated Maximum Heart Rate (%EMHR)

%EMHR = acquired heart rate / EMHR x 100%

An example of %EMHR:

Estimated Maximum Heart Rate (EMHR)

EMHR = 220 - 30 (user’s age) = 190 bpm

Percentage of Estimated Maximum Heart Rate (%EMHR)

acquired heart rate = 131 (by measurement)
%EMHR = 131 / 190 x 100% = 69%

8.2.6 Heart rate zones
Exercise zones are established by setting the Upper and Lower Heart Rate
Limits. You can use the fitness (preset limits = 65% and 85% of the EMHR)
or your own customized limits.
Use the following Heart Rate Zone Chart to select the zone you wish to
exercise in.
You should consult a medical professional when selecting a training
