B. Install Restrictor Pin

The starter cartridge includes a row of vent holes near
the front end of the cartridge. This procedure involves
installing a restrictor pin in one of these vent holes.

NOTE

Use only one restrictor pin per starter cartridge.
Additional restrictor pins will reduce torch perfor-
mance.

1. Locate the vent holes in the front edge of the starter

cartridge. Note the position of the spring- loaded cyl-
inder on the front end of the starter cartridge at full
extension.

2. Press the spring-loaded cylinder into the starter car-

tridge as far as it will move.

3. Start the smaller end of the restrictor pin into any one

of the vent holes in the starter cartridge.

4. Turn the starter cartridge and the restrictor pin over.

Press the starter cartridge and restrictor pin against a
solid surface until the pin seats fully in the hole in the
starter cartridge.

5. Turn the starter cartridge over. Hold the starter car-

tridge stationary. Bend the larger end of the restrictor
pin until it breaks off. The broken end should be flush
with the surface of the starter cartridge.

CAUTION

Do not twist the pin in the hole in the starter car-
tridge.

6. Confirm that the restrictor pin prevents the spring-

loaded cylinder from extending fully.

C. Install Torch Shield Cup, Tip, and Starter

Cartridge

1. Assemble the torch consumables as follows:

a. Slip the starter cartridge onto the electrode as

shown.

b. Fit the tip onto the front end of the cartridge.

c. Slip the shield cup or shield cup assembly onto

the tip and starter cartridge.

d. Hand tighten the shield cup until it is seated on

the torch head. If resistance is felt when install-
ing the cup, check the threads before proceeding.

NOTE

When operating the torch in a normal condition, a
small amount of gas vents through the gap between
the shield cup and the torch handle. Do not at-
tempt to overtighten the shield cup as irreparable
damage to internal components may result.

Refer to the appropriate torch manual for general infor-
mation regarding torch operation.
