Restrictor Pin Kit No. 8-3440
for Model SL60 and SL100 Torches
Installation Instructions
General Information
Some power supplies with high volt start circuitry include
a Tip/Electrode detect circuit that senses when the torch
tip and electrode are in a shorted condition and will not
allow the start circuit to be activated. These power sup-
plies require a restrictor pin to be installed into the 1Torch
starter cartridge to enable operation with Thermal Dy-
namics model SL60 or SL100 torches. Once the restrictor
pin is installed, the starter cartridge can be used only with
power supplies with high-volt start circuitry.
NOTE
The installation of this kit should only be performed
by a qualified technician.
Starter Cartridge Selection
With the modified starter cartridge installed in a model
SL60 or SL100 torch, the torch will operate properly only
with power supplies using high - voltage start circuitry
as described in the General Information Section.
Model SL60 and SL100 torches with a modified starter
cartridge installed will not operate with power supplies
using contact - start circuitry.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to remove the restrictor pin once
installed. Irreparable damage to the starter car-
tridge may result.
Keep these instructions for future use. Replacement
starter cartridges will not include these instructions.
Starter cartridges for use with power supplies with high
- voltage start circuitry (as noted in the General Informa-
tion section above) require a restrictor pin (Kit No. 8-3440)
to enable operation of the torch.

Installation Procedure
WARNING
Disconnect primary power at the source and bleed
down the system before assembling or disassem-
bling torch parts.
A. Remove Torch Shield Cup, Tip, and Starter
Cartridge

Torch Head
1. Unscrew and remove the shield cup from the torch
head.
2. Tilt the torch head to remove the tip and starter
cartridge. Leave the electrode in place in the torch
head.
