This manual is for several different lenses.
The VCL-ECF2/VCL-ECU2 (referred to below as “this
unit”) can only be used with a combination of a Sony
α camera system E-mount camera (referred to below
as “camera”) and an Interchangeable Lens E 16mm
F2.8 (SEL16F28)/ E 20mm F2.8 (SEL20F28).
These cameras and interchangeable lens are not
available in all countries/regions.

The illustrations in this manual show the VCL-ECF2,
except Identifying the Parts (illustration
).
WARNING
Do not look at the sun directly through this unit.
Doing so may hurt your eyes and cause loss of
eyesight.
CAUTION
To avoid injury, be careful not to drop this unit.
Careless handling can lead to injury.

Attaching this Unit
Before attaching this unit

Check that the interchangeable lens E 16mm F2.8
(SEL16F28)/E 20mm F2.8 (SEL20F28) is attached to the
camera. If a different interchangeable lens is attached,
replace it.
ˎ
ˎ
Turn off the power of the camera.
ˎ
ˎ
If the MC protector or a filter is attached to the
interchangeable lens, remove it before attaching this
unit.
To attach this unit
1
Remove the front lens cap from the
interchangeable lens and this unit’s front
and rear caps.
2 Align the “ (red point*)” on the barrel
of this unit with the “ (red line*)” on the
interchangeable lens. Carefully insert this
unit into the interchangeable lens and slowly
rotate it clockwise until it locks into place.
* The red point and red line indicate the indexes.

Do not slide the lock release on this unit.
Detaching this unit
1 Turn off the power of the camera.
2 While sliding the lock release on this unit, fully
rotate this unit counterclockwise and detach
this unit.
Notes on Use

Be careful not to subject this unit to mechanical shock
while attaching it.
ˎ
ˎ
Be careful when placing the camera on a table or other
flat surface with this unit attached. The rim of this unit’s
lens hood touches the table so the camera body is at
an unstable angle.
ˎ
ˎ
Remove this unit when carrying.
ˎ
ˎ
Do not hold the camera only by this unit.
ˎ
ˎ
Always place the lens caps on this unit when storing.
ˎ
ˎ
To prevent mold, do not keep this unit in a very humid
place for a long period of time.
Restrictions on use
When using the flash or AF illuminator, it may block
light and create a lens shadow in the image.
Condensation
If this unit is brought directly from a cold place to
a warm place, condensation may appear on this
unit. To prevent this, place this unit in a plastic bag
or something similar beforehand. When the air
temperature inside the bag reaches the surrounding
temperature, take this unit out.
Cleaning this unit
Brush off any dust from the surface of this unit with
a blower brush or soft brush. Wipe off fingerprints or
other smears with a soft cloth slightly moistened with
a mild detergent solution.

F2.8 (SEL16F28) provides a fisheye effect at a focal
length of 10 mm (about 15 mm in equivalent
35mm-format).

(SEL16F28) provides an ultra wide angle effect at a
focal length of 12 mm (about 18 mm in equivalent
35mm-format).

Minimum focus is the shortest distance from the
image sensor to the subject. The above values
