CABLE CONNECTOR COMPONENTS
PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE BEGINNING THE INSTALLATION
1. Disassemble the connector by unscrewing the entry component (1) from the rest of the connector to form sub-assembly A
and sub-assembly B. (Note that items 9 and 10 are loose items). Pass sub-assembly B over the cable, outer seal nut first.
2. Strip back the jacket and armor to suit the equipment
geometry. Strip back the jacket a further length L (See table on
back page for guidanace for the length L). Strip back and remove
inner jacket, fillers and tapes, if any. NOTE: For instrumentation
cables utilising shielded cable, individual/overall drain wires, see
Installation Guidance Notes on back page.
3. Pass the armour spacer (9) with nylon end stop (2) over the conductors. If the nylon end stop will not pass over the
conductors it should be removed as it is not needed. The spacer should be pressed against the end of the armour. Wearing
the protective gloves supplied, thoroughly mix the two-part compound until the colour is uniform and the compound is
pliable. NOTE: as the compound will form an explosion proof seal, it must be installed carefully. It should not be mixed or
applied at temperatures below 50°F / 10°C.
4. Pack the compound into the crutch of the cable. If the
cable has un-insulated grounding conductors, then 'bird
cage' open and apply compound between the individual
strands. Apply compound around and between the
conductors as shown below
5. Pass the compound tube over the conductors until it is located on the armour spacer.
IMPORTANT - Remove any excess compound or if necessary add more compound to fully fill the compound tube. Clean any
excess compound from the surface of the compound tube.
6. Carefully pass the entry item (1) over the conductors and compound tube. Hand tighten to the connector body, this
tightens the compound tube to the armor spacer. Remove the entry item and clean off any excess compound from the tube,
then re-apply the entry component (hand tight) and leave to cure. (At ambient temperature 50°F / 10°C this will take
approximately 24 hours).
Once the compound has cured, unscrew the entry item from the rest of the connector
and install it into the equipment. Then re-attach the cable/connector assembly and
tighten the body to engage the spring (5). Do not over-tighten.
Finally, tighten the outer seal nut until the seal has engaged on the outer sheath. Do
not over-tighten.

ÉLÉMENTS DU CONNECTEUR
LIRE ATTENTIVEMENT CES INSTRUCTIONS AVANT DE COMMENCER L'INSTALLATION.
1. Désassemblez le connecteur en dévissant l’entrée filetée (1) du reste du connecteur pour créer les sous-ensembles A et B.
(Notez que les éléments 9 et 10 sont mobiles.) Passez le câble dans le sous-ensemble B, l’écrou d’étanchéité extérieur en
premier.
2. Enlevez la gaine et le blindage du câble selon la géométrie de
l'équipement. Dégainez le câble davantage sur une distance « L ».
(Voir le tableau au verso pour déterminer la longueur « L ».) Enlevez
la gaine, la garniture et le ruban s’il y en a. REMARQUE : pour les
câbles d’instrumentation utilisant des câbles blindés, les fils de masse
individuels ou généraux, voir les conseils d’installation au verso.
3. Passez le câble dans la bague d’espacement de blindage (9) avec la butée en nylon (2). La butée n’est pas nécessaire et
peut être enlevée si le câble ne passe pas dans cette dernière. La bague d’espacement doit être appuyée contre le bout du
blindage. En portant les gants de protection fournis, mélangez les deux parties du matériau composite jusqu'à ce que la
couleur soit uniforme et que le produit soit malléable. REMARQUE : le matériau composite doit être appliqué avec
précaution, puisqu’il forme un joint antidéflagration. Il ne doit pas être mélangé ou appliqué à une température inférieure à
50 °F/10 °C.
4. Comprimez le matériau composite dans l’écartement du
câble. Si le câble est muni d’un fil de mise à la masse non
isolé, garder alors l’assemblage ouvert et appliquez le
matériau composite entre les fils. Appliquez le matériau
composite autour et entre les fils comme montré ci-dessous.
5. Passez le câble dans le tube composite jusqu’à ce que ce dernier soit positionné sur la bague d’espacement de blindage.
IMPORTANT – enlevez tout excès de matériau composite ou, au besoin, ajouter en pour remplir entièrement le tube
composite. Nettoyez tout excès de matériau composite de la
surface du tube composite.
6. Passez minutieusement le câble et le tube composite par l'entrée filetée (1). Serrez à la main le corps du connecteur, pour
serrer le tube composite sur la bague d’espacement de blindage. Enlevez l’entrée filetée et nettoyez tout excès de matériau
composite du tube, puis remettez l’entrée filetée (serré à la main) et laissez sécher. (À température ambiante de 50 °F/10
°C, cette opération prend environ 24 heures.)
Une fois le matériau composite sec, dévissez l’entrée filetée du reste du connecteur
et installez-le sur l'équipement. Rattachez ensuite l’ensemble câble/connecteur et
serrez le corps pour engager le ressort (5). Ne pas trop serrer.
Finalement, serrez l’écrou d’étanchéité extérieur jusqu’à ce qu'un joint se forme sur
la gaine. Ne pas trop serrer.
