q

Auto-on/Standby or Auto-on/off

If your subwoofer has this feature, it will turn on when it receives an

input signal—eliminating the need for a power switch. If no signal
is sensed for a period of time, the subwoofer will automatically switch
off (or switch to standby, depending on the model).

q

Always-on

When the toggle switch is in the Always-On position, the subwoofer will

remain continuously “on.”

q

Subwoofer Level

Balances the subwoofer output level to your speakers.
For instructions on setting the Subwoofer Controls once your subwoofer

has been connected refer to the section on “Fine Tuning,” page 8.

q

Subwoofer Cut-off Frequency and Bypass option

(on models where applicable)

Controls the subwoofer’s upper-frequency cut-off. This can be set

to match the low-frequency roll-off characteristics of your front
speakers. For example, if your front speakers play to approximately 80
Hz, you can set the subwoofer cut-off frequency to 80 Hz.

Bypass option allows you to bypass the subwoofer’s built-in cut-off
control to let your preamp/processor’s or receiver’s internal bass manage-
ment system provide the crossover function.

q

Subwoofer/Satellite Phase Alignment

The sound from your subwoofer may arrive at the listening position out of

phase with the front speakers. This control synchronizes the subwoofer
and the front speakers through their frequency overlap region.

NOTE: For models without phase alignment controls, the (+) and (–)
connections can be reversed to change relative phase.

(continued)

Before connecting your subwoofer, please read this entire section
to determine which setup option best suits your needs.
(See Dealer
if you require additional information.)
NOTE: Connection options vary by model. Review your check marks to
determine hook-up methods available.
1. Line-Level Input From Sub/LFE Output (Fig. 3) – For use with

a receiver, processor or subwoofer control unit that has a
Sub-Out/LFE-Out jack.

Using an RCA-to-RCA interconnect cable connect the subwoofer as

shown. If your subwoofer has two low-level input jacks use the right
(mono) input.

2. Speaker-Level Input (Fig. 4) – For use with a receiver or amplifier

that has no Sub-Out/LFE-Out or Pre-Out/Front-Out facilities.

Using high-quality speaker cable connect your subwoofer, as shown.
For convenience, you can also connect your front speakers to these

terminals (also shown in Fig. 4).

SUBWooFeR CoNNeCTIoN oPTIoNS

on the rear of selected subwoofer models, allows for:
• Connection of optional Paradigm Perfect Bass Kit (PBK

);

• Future upgrades to the software installed in your subwoofer.

The USB PoRT

Even when the world’s finest speakers are perfectly positioned, the room
can still have a dramatic impact on performance. Room dimensions, dead
spots, archways, furniture placement and countless other factors can turn a
room into an additional instrument, playing alongside musicians or movie
scores with unwanted contributions of coloration and resonance.

Although the Control Facilities included on your Paradigm

®

subwoofer allow

you to fine tune for optimal bass performance in your room, Paradigm’s
Perfect Bass Kit (PBK

) (sold separately, see Dealer) allows you to correct

for the effects of your room’s boundaries.
