Install the Module 2-5
Key the Backplane
Connector With your fingers, insert the keying bands in the backplane connector
to correspond to the key slots on the module. This prevents you from
inserting the wrong module into the slot. For this module, place the
keying bands between the following connectors:
• 20 and 22
• 28 and 30
Install the Module and
Wiring Arm
Complete the following steps to install the module in the I/O chassis:
1. Remove power from the 1771 chassis.

WARNING
When used in a Class I, Division 2, hazardous location, this
equipment must be mounted in a suitable enclosure with proper
wiring method that complies with the governing electrical
codes.
WARNING
If you insert or remove the module while backplane power is on,
an electrical arc can occur. This could cause an explosion in
hazardous location installations.
Be sure that power is removed before proceeding.
