Symptom

Cause and Remedy

Sound distortion

Sound distortion during CUE or REVIEW operation.

No sound distortion with other recorded tapes.

The recording level was too high.

The recorded signal itself was distorted.

Sound distortion with other recorded taped as
well.

Another component in your system is distorting
the sound.

The heads are dirty. (See "Cleaning tape heads" on page 7.)

Remote control

Remote control operation is not possible.

The batteries in the remote control unit are dead.

There is an obstruction between the remote
control unit and the deck.

The remote control unit is being operated outside
of the operating range.

Program playback

Tunes are not played in the designated
sequence.

• The Start-IDs and tune numbers are not re­

corded correctly.

• There is an unrecorded blank area between tunes.

Stops in mid-operation.

• The Start-IDs and tune numbers are not re­

corded correctly.

• There is an unrecorded blank area between tunes.

A nonexistent tune number was designated in the
program.

The A-TIME or End Mark is not recorded. There is
an unrecorded area in the middle of the recording.

A certain section is skipped without being

played (skip operation).

A Skip-1 D is recorded on the tape.
• Cancel the skip function.
• Erase the Skip-ID.

The tape starts rewinding during playback (or
during fast-forwarding).

• The tape was wound fully to the end (automatic

rewind function).

• An End Mark is reached.

Playback starts after the tape is rewind.

The repeat playback function is operating.

The tape counter does not display the time.

Time data is not recorded on the tape.

Playback or recording starts automatically when

the power is turned on.

The TIMER switch is set to REPEAT PLAY or REC.

TOC data is not displayed.
