Preparing tapes for editing

Before proceeding to commence editing, the black
burst signal, time code and CTL signal must first be
recorded on the tape.
The method of preparing the editing tape differs
depending on whether assemble editing or insert
editing is to be performed.

In the case of assemble editing, a run-up period must
be provided prior to the first assemble IN point.
The 1ST EDIT function is available as an easy way of
preparing the run-up period.
For the second and subsequent times, 1ST EDIT is
not needed because the section edited before is used
as the run-up period.

Preparing tapes for assemble editing

1

Set the time code and user’s bit values which are
to serve as the first assemble editing IN point using
setup menu item No.377 (1ST EDIT TC) and
No.378 (1ST EDIT UB).
<Note>
Select drop frame or non-drop frame using setup
menu item No.509 (DF MODE) before performing
these settings.

2

Select the length of the recording period using
setup menu item No.376 (1ST EDIT DUR). In the
case of assemble editing, select “26s” (26 seconds
= run-up period of 23 sec. + overlap of 3 sec.).

3

Return to the normal mode, press the VTR2 button
to select VTR, and register the IN point using the
MARK IN button.
The present position of the VTR2 (recorder) tape is
set 23 seconds before the time code value which
was set in step

1

.

4

Press the 1ST EDIT (SHIFT + ASMBL) button.
Recording of the black burst signal, time code and
CTL signal now commences. (The sound is
muted.)
Recording is performed for a total of 26 seconds
(23 sec. for the run-up period + 3 sec. after the
time code value setting), and the tape then returns
to the position of the time code value setting where
it stops.
This completes the preparations for assemble
editing.
